Yiannis Ploutarhos’ 2012 sold out Los Angeles concert launched PMP and returns April 28 for San Francisco debut expanding PMP to Northern California
“I thought I would do one concert, I never thought I’d make a career out this,” said Dena Romios about her leap to Greek concert producer. This month, Romios celebrates her fifth anniversary with the San Francisco debut of Greece’s Yiannis Ploutarhos and you can say she’s come full circle. Ploutarhos, after all, was the artist that launched her Power Muse Productions, an entertainment company primarily serving the Los Angeles area.
Her portfolio also includes such Greek notables as Peggy Zina, Thanos Petrelis, Giorgos Mazonakis, Antypas, Giorgos Tsalikis, and “A Tribute to the Legends” which featured the sons of Bithikotsis, Dionysiou, Kokotas and Parios, among others.
Her foray into the entertainment business was happenstance. Attending a concert in Chicago, she encountered Greece’s acclaimed producer Vangelis Yannopoulos while standing outside complaining about the cold Chicago air. When Yannopoulos asked her why she doesn’t attend concerts in Los Angeles, she shared that “the Greek artists don’t come out to LA.” His response was: “Why don’t you do it?” She met with him the next day and two months later set out to establish a name. Likening her to a pit bull, Yannopoulos told her, “You’re powerful, you’re like a power muse. That’s it! That’s your new name!”
She later got the call from George Valsamis of OPA Productions who was producing a Ploutarhos tour and the rest, as they say, is history. “I’m lucky, I got the golden ticket when I started with Ploutarhos,” she said. “I’ve learned to never take anything for granted because in this industry, one thing can go wrong and it can ruin you. I’ve learned that it takes a village. When people appreciate what you do, they let their friends know.”
Tickets to Yiannis Ploutarhos with a special performance by the Kings at The Regency Ballroom, 1290 Sutter Street, San Francisco, can be purchased by calling 1-877-679-9715. Standing room student pricing on both levels also available.
Next up, PMP presents the legendary Marinella and Remos at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on October 7, 2017. Mark your calendars and visit www.powermuseproductions for more details.
