Metropolis of San Francisco Philoptochos Awards Nearly $160,000 in Support to SF Students

For over 30 years, the Metropolis of San Francisco Philoptochos has been providing financial assistance to its seminarians and students through the Bishop Anthony Philoptochos Student Aid Endowment Fund. In the early years of this endowment, students were given gifts of just $25 or $50, but they were received with heartfelt gratitude by the students. Over the years, the Metropolis Philoptochos has made it a priority to increase the support by awarding nearly $160,000 in financial assistance to the 11 seminarians and students from the Metropolis of San Francisco attending Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.

Metropolis Philoptochos President Jeannie Ranglas, who also serves as the First Vice-President of the National Philoptochos Board, spoke at both the Alumni Dinner and at the 77th Commencement Ceremony. In her remarks, Jeannie said to the students, “As you now embark into the world, hold fast to the memories of your time here on The Holy Hill and always remember the cross which shines brightly on the dome of the Chapel, for the cross will always be your strength, to sustain you in all your work and to guide you on your journey.” When speaking about the financial support offered by both National Philoptochos and the Metropolis of San Francisco, Jeannie stated, “These are not just monetary gifts, these are gifts of love, and an investment in each of you, because we believe in your potential and that you can and will make a difference in our Archdiocese.”
Each year, the Metropolis of San Francisco holds two “Light the Path” Christmas Luncheon events to raise funds for the Bishop Anthony Philoptochos Student Aid Endowment Fund. This year’s events will be held on Saturday, November 23 at Saint Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Irvine, CA; and on Saturday, December 7 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in San Francisco, CA.
