During his Keynote Address, Metropolitan Gerasimos stated, “There are so many negative influences in the world that take us away from those things that are good and holy and joyful. Education is a gift that we can give our children. But an education that we can give them that is also rooted in our faith is one of immeasurable value. The name of your school is perfect for what you are doing – Agia Sophia – Holy Wisdom. For wisdom goes far beyond what can be taught, but rather is gained through discernment, prayer and careful guidance, experience and sound judgment. Even the youngest of your students’ gains wisdom from their time at Agia Sophia, and what they are being taught today will stay with them. Early childhood education is a pivotal time in the development of our children, and you are setting a standard of excellence that will always be a part of their formation.”

The pastoral visit of Metropolitan Gerasimos to Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church and Agia Sophia Academy in Beaverton, OR concluded with a tour of the school and interacting with the students in their classrooms, and also meeting with the teachers, conveying his gratitude for the dedication and love they impart through their instruction.
