Dora Stratou Dance Theatre, Athens, July 28 and 29
Dancers are invited to perform at the historical Dora Stratou Dance Theatre opposite the Acropolis, the focal point of dance in Greece since 1953. Anapale 2018, the 12th International Dance Festival, is open to all forms of dance, solos, duos, companies, and large ensembles.
Dancers will perform in the extra-large stage of the garden theatre. They can visit museums and archaeological sites with guides specializing in dance history as well as attend performances by the national Dora Stratou Dance and Music Company. They can combine it with holidays and the nearest beach which is just 15 minutes away.
Companies and schools can award International Certification to their dancers. The most important benefit will be the privilege to perform in the bastion of dance, near the oldest dance theatre in the world, under the Acropolis.
The national Dora Stratou Dance Theatre is unique in its kind in the world. Its activities include a permanent company of 75 dancers, musicians and singers; a school of over 500 students; a collection of 200 authentic costumes complete with jewelry and accessories; a team of field researchers specialized in anthropology, sociology, musicology or folklore; a publishing house that produced scores of books, CDs, DVDs, brochures; and a library, archive, collections of articles, and websites. Its sponsors include the Ministry of Culture, the National Tourism Organization, the Region of Attica, other government agencies, and private donors.
Anapale 2018 is under the auspices of the International Dance Council CID, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Municipality of Athens.
