The EcoLuxe Lounge event on Friday September 14 was an assortment of environmentally-conscious brands and companies. More than 100 award nominees and talent were in attendance at the event, which was hosted at the Beverly Hilton Hotel penthouse. Greek actor, writer and producer Theo Pagones was also in attendance at the event.
Debbie Durkin has hosted the Annual EcoLuxe Event for Television’s Biggest Night for the past 12 years. Beginning as an agent who represented talent, writers and directors she soon began assuming a variety of roles. She settled on entertainment and celebrity product placement with her indie TV and film production company Durkin Entertainment. As one of LA’s creative sustainable producers, Durkin’s EcoLuxe Lounge event is one of many and aims to benefit charitable and environmental causes. Durkin spoke with the Hellenic Journal about her goals with the EcoLuxe events and what she promises her clients.
“We want to do things that are good for the planet, good for the families, good for the kids,” Durkin said.
Her EcoLuxe Lounges began at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2007 and Durkin said it was the most successful lounge that Park City had ever seen. Durkin also said she goes into her events with a zero-carbon footprint. Durkin works with different brands at each of her events and matches them with the right media outlets to convey their message.
“I honor integrity and purpose. If I take on a brand I want to make sure they get what they need,” Durkin said. “I build a brand that way so once a consumer sees that on a major network that validates it for the consumer.”
In attendance at the EcoLuxe event were many different vendors including Chariot Travel, BudTrader and Villa Eyewear. Hellenic Journal spoke to Chariot Travel founder, who shared a story similar to many Greeks but as an immigrant from Asia. Pop artist and fashioneer Gabe Gault also provided a unique perspective on society and culture in his different works of art.
Pagones applauded the conservation efforts of the event and said that he has made a difference in reducing his own carbon footprint by getting rid of his car a year-and-a-half ago. He also noted that while being on sets in the past few years there have been initiatives to be more eco-friendly.
“A lot of them have been mindful of recycling and even the small things like handing out a bottle of water and putting your name on it to reuse,” Pagones said. “They’ve changed how they process and use and make their footprints on sets and I’ve noticed a difference.”
Pagones was impressed with his first EcoLuxe Lounge event. He said that he is also a loyal user of Greek sustainable and eco-conscious cleaning products company Ecos.
“I try to keep my carbon footprint to a minimum,” he said. “I’m trying to be a good human and not use the resources to the maximum.”
