Heavenly Vestments Event
By Vergie Papalexis (P.R. Contact for PAOI’s Women’s Board of Southern California)
BEAUTIFUL! ELABORATE! UNIQUE! Were the exclamations heard at the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute Women’s Board, Southern California’s Heavenly Vestments Event at the Saint Anthony Greek Orthodox Center in Pasadena, CA, where an array of Vestments, Engolpion (medallions of Saints), and Epigonation (another part of a vestment) from the private collection of His Eminence Greek Orthodox Metropolitan Nikitas of the Dardanelles (Director of PAOI) were viewed by over 125 guests, who enthusiastically examined the fabulous embroidery on the fine Asian silk and satin garments.
President Stephanie Duncan and Event Chairman Georgia Kezios, Esq., welcomed the attendees. His Eminence Metropolitan Nikitas and Father Peter Stratos reverently gave the prayer. Also present were V. Rev. Archimandrite Spencer Kezios, Father Christopher Retelas, and Founder of PAOI, Helen Liacouras Lambros. After a delicious luncheon, accompanied by rose bouquets of fragrant flowers donated by Georgia Dafterios, the lovely Chanter Katerina Lynch and the Operatic Soprano Michele Patzakis Prappas sang very touching Greek songs. The last melody of “Yialo Yialo” had its origins on the Greek Island of Kalymnos, where the Metropolitan’s mother and Michele’s paternal grandmother were born. All guests joined in.
The very efficient Raffle Chairman Stacia Counelis, assisted by her children, and Sophia Angelos, brought delight to the winners. Reservation Chairman Tina Callas expertly handled the guests.
