The Saint Sophia Cathedral Philoptochos Society of Los Angeles celebrated its 52nd Debutante Presentation Ball on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Sixteen Debutantes from eight different parishes in Southern California were presented.
The president of Saint Sophia Philoptochos, Judith Christopoulos welcomed the nearly 500 guests in attendance and reminded everyone that this is the largest woman’s philanthropic Christian organization in the country. She told the Debutantes to “be yourself, be patient, have faith, always remember what you have learned from your parents, keep Christ close to your heart, pray without ceasing, remember your church and Philoptochos so you can give back a little of what you have received to help others.” She then introduced the co-chairs Katrina Beers and Georgia Kezios.
The Master of Ceremonies was Perry Lambert, an accomplished singer, actor, comedian, impressionist and Broadway World’s nominated “Best Male Cabaret Artist in Los Angeles.” Perry introduced the Debutantes who waltzed with their fathers and escorts to music by the Gus Pappelis Orchestra. The beautifully choreographed program by Zoe Vidalakis and Tania Grafos was the highlight of the evening. The Debs and guests enjoyed and danced to traditional Greek music by The Olympians.
Philoptochos is committed to helping the disabled, the aged, the destitute and the orphans. The Debutante Ball is a major fundraiser for Saint Sophia Philoptochos charities which include the L.A. Mission, Community Welfare Assistance, The Domestic Violence Agency, Salvin Special Education School, Foundation for the Junior Blind, Philanthropia HIV/AIDS and Hospital Ministry, Aid for Hospitalized Children and Adults from Greece, Neighborhood Food Pantry, Lunches for Homeless Children, Saint Sophia Cathedral, Saint Sophia Camp, National and Metropolis charities and many more.
