Meet Elizabeth Tzagournis, the new HJ Southern California contributor. Born in Columbus, Ohio and the oldest of six, Elizabeth lives in Los Angeles where she currently works as a journalist and documentary filmmaker on a Netflix docu-series.
Her roots hail from Ano Viannos, Crete on her father’s side, and Nafpaktos and Tripoli on her mother’s side. A journalism major in college, she was a contributing writer for Ohio State University’s newspaper The Lantern as well as Ohio’s CityScene Magazine with a focus on arts and entertainment features.
Her work, however, does not end there. “I have interviewed people in all walks of life,” she shared, “from authors to actors to businessmen and women, and everything in between.”
Last summer, she joined over sixty Greek-American students in the Heritage Greece signature program of the National Hellenic Society and has since become a Chapter Co-Chair for the Los Angeles chapter of the Heritage Greece Alumni Network. “My heritage has been a huge part of my life,” she added.
A recipient of the Peter Agris Memorial Scholarship for Greek-Americans pursuing careers in journalism, Elizabeth is thrilled to bring the Southern California stories and events to the HJ readers starting in June. With her passion for cooking and nutrition along with personal interests in live music, reading, travel, and events, HJ readers can anticipate an enthusiastic voice who loves to tell a story. We welcome Elizabeth to the HJ community.
