Strobe is the only oboe quartet in the Bay Area. It began in a carpool, discussing the oboe and chamber music written for oboe and strings.  The quartet put together a concert for fun, which led to another, a commission, and a grant from the Zellerbach Foundation. Now in its third season, Strobe will be performing the San Francisco and Pacifica premieres of Vincent Russo’s Visions & Visitations, for which they received the grant. They will also play two movements of a new piece being composed by their new composer in residence, Alexis Alrich.  She is inspired by her synesthesia, which causes her to see colors when she hears certain notes. Water Colors is also inspired by the changing colors of water as it moves. Old First Church is located at 1751 Sacramento Street (at Van Ness Street) in San Francisco. Pacifia Performances are held at 1220 Linda Mar Blvd. in Pacifica. For more details, visit or follow them at strobemusicsf on Facebook and Twitter.
