Summer is coming? Perhaps. But for Game of Thrones fans…“Winter is coming.” Next month, Season 7 returns on July 16, 2017 on HBO! The smashing success has had a few performers and crew members of Greek descent. On another “Greek Game of Thrones” note, reports show that Kit Harrington (“Jon Snow”) and Rose Leslie (“Ygritte”) vacationed in May in Hydra, Greece. For those who have been meaning to start the series and “binge” to catch up to season 7, don’t worry – there are not any spoilers in this edition of 5 Greeks.
Eros Vlahos: Portraying Lommy Greenhands in Seasons 1 and 2, Eros Vlahos, takes part of his journey with Arya, Hot Pie, and Gendry. From London, Vlahos’ most notable roles beyond GOT are in Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang as Cyril Gray (2010) and in 2012’s Anna Karenina as Boris. Miltos Yerolemou: From Season 1, Miltos Yerolemou played Syrio Forel who was Arya Stark’s fencing coach, or “dance instructor.” His character specializes in a special sword practice called “water dancing.” The majority of his scenes display beautiful movement and use of fencing. Of Greek Cypriot background, Yerolemou hails from the United Kingdom. Other acting credits include Dr. Mai in The Danish Girl (2015) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens(2015). Marianna Kyriacou: Makeup Artist Marianna Kyriacou won an Emmy for “Outstanding Makeup For a Single-Camera Series (Non-Prosthetic)” in 2016. Kyriacou has been credited as a makeup artist for GOT since 2015. Other projects on her resume include Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016) and Patient Zero (2017).
Mia Soteriou: Season 1 features Mia Soteriou as Mirri Maz Duur, a part of the khalasar under Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) and Khaleesi Daenerys Targeryen (Emilia Clarke). Soteriou was also in 2008’s musical film Mamma Mia! which was filmed in Greece. Her IMDb also credits her as a vocal coach for the film. A musician with composing credits, reports online say that she studied at the Royal College of Music in London.
George Georgiou: Playing Razdal mo Eraz, George Georgiou, has participated in Seasons 3 and 6. His character Razdal deals primarily with Khaleesi Daenerys. Prior to Game of Thrones, Georgiou has been seen in the films 300: Rise of an Empire and D. The Bible Continues as Boaz. Like his fellow Greek and GOT cast member Mia Soteriou (above), he was also in Mamma Mia! as Panos. Georgiou received his acting training at the Drama Centre London, had a successful stage career in London, and was in off-West End productions as well.
